NASARAWA State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has assured corps members deployed to Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau states to commence their orientation exercise in Nasarawa State of adequate security while engaging the exercise in the State.
The Governor who gave the assurance on Monday at the Dan Yamusa Orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch C stream II combined orientation exercise for corp members deployed to Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau States.
Mr Aliyu Tijani, the State Commissioner of Education, who represented the Governor, said the state government has put in place all necessary resources to ensure that all the corps members in the state, both in the camp and across the State carry out their national assignment in peace, tranquillity and safety.
He assured those who will remain to serve in the State after the orientation exercise of the hospitality and peaceful nature of the people of the state and urged the corps members to respect the culture and norms of their host communities and make useful contributions while serving.
“Government will continue to do everything possible to sustain the status of the state as a home for all. In this regard, all efforts have been put in place to ensure your safety so you can serve your fatherland with vigour, confidence and patriotism.

“I also urge you all to play significant roles in the education of our children and initiate community development projects that will have direct bearing in the lives of members of your host communities. Demonstrate exemplary patriotism aimed at the overall development of our society,” He said.
The governor also urges the corps members to contribute their quota to the upliftment of the aims and objectives of the founding fathers of NYSC and be agents of change as well as role models.
“Your actions should not be contrary to what society expects from you; it is important that you avoid actions capable of tarnishing the image of the different states and the families you represent,” He said.
The governor then assured the corps members that his administration recognises the importance of youths as agents of socio-economic development hence the commitment of the Nasarawa state government in ensuring that youths are engaged in meaningful ventured aimed at addressing unemployment.
“In this regard, this government will continue to support the activities of the NYSC scheme and indeed corps members who come up with meaningful projects that will be of benefit to the State,” He said.
In her address, Mrs Zainab Isah, Coordinator of NYSC in Nasarawa State revealed that a total number of 2104 corps members were deployed from the three states, screened and registered for the 2018 Batch C Stream II orientation exercise at the orientation camp in Nasarawa State.
“Your Excellency sir, the 2018 Batch C Stream II orientation course commenced nationwide on Thursday, 15th November 2018 in 26 selected NYSC orientation camps with Nasarawa State playing host to corps members deployed to Benue and Plateau states.
“All corps members who reported to camp have been duly screened and registered. At the close of registration exercise at 12.00 midnight on Friday, 16th November 2018, a total of 2104 corp members were registered. This figure is made of 1224 females and 880 males. The corp members being sworn in today reflects the geographical spread of Nigeria,” she said.
Isah explains that the orientation exercise will prepare the corps members for the task of nation-building through training and activities such as paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical training, lectures, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development training among others.
“These activities will commence today and I am glad to report that since the commencement of the orientation course, we have not recorded any major challenge that may mar this exercise. All prospective corps members have been well behaved. These patriotic Nigerians are itching to hit the ground running in a bid to serve their fatherland,” She said.
Isah who thanked the Nasarawa state governor for his assistance to the NYSC scheme in the State, however, appealed for more support in renovating the camp and constructing two additional hostel blocks to accommodate the corps members.
“We are also craving your indulgence in appealing that you kindly provide the secretariat with a utility vehicle (Hilux van) to facilitate corps inspection and enhance the smooth operation of the scheme’s activities in the State.
“We are highly optimistic that his Excellency will come to the rescue of the scheme and his children in his magnanimity,” He said.
