Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Gombe State have been berated for not cooperating with the State Bureau of Statistics in the performance of their monitoring and evaluation functions.
Statistician-General of Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammed Gidado, made the allegation, declaring that the MDAs in the state have not been cooperating with the Bureau, therefore, militating against its functions.
Mohammed Gidado who stated this during an interview with newsmen in his office on Monday said that due to the lack of this synergy, many wrong data concerning the state have been wrongly circulated widely.
He said, though the state government has been doing its best in giving attention to the operations of the Bureau, it is still faced with a lot of challenges such as shortage of operational vehicles, computers and adequate funding.

According to him, though the Bureau is well accommodated but its staff strength is grossly inadequate to cover all areas of human endeavour in the entire state in getting data for the use of the general public.
Mohammed Gidado said that, with only 54 staff, the Bureau is expected to cover 84 MDAs, 11 LGAs as well as many other sectors in getting daily data from all these sectors.
He said that the Bureau may be constrained into dragging many of these MDAs to court for failing to furnish it with up to data for usage in analysis and proper documentation.
The Statistician-General particularly fingered the State Ministry of Health for not cooperating in this regard saying, “that is why we have many wrong data used by National and International agencies whom we wonder how they come up with their data about the state.”
