Gov Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Thursday inaugurated the state Scholarship Board with a call on members to give scholarship to only well-deserving applicants.
Ikpeazu said at the Government House, Umuahia, that the inauguration of the board was informed by the vital role education played in the social development of the society.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Ude Oko-Chukwu also advised the members to conduct thorough evaluation and assessment of applicants before granting the scholarship.

Ikpeazu further urged them to explore funding opportunities from donor agencies to raise funds to complement the resources to be provided by the state government.
Responding, Chief Empire Kanu, Chairman of the board, thanked the state government for finding them fit for the assignment.
The chairman, who said that the importance of education could not be over-emphasised, promised that the members would take the assignment serious.
Kanu also assured that members would be fair as well as be guided by the fear of God in selecting beneficiaries.
He said that the board would partner with the private sector to raise funds to facilitate the smooth running of the scholarship programme.
Other members of the Board include Mrs Christiana Onuoha, Chief David Nwogu, Mrs Achama Egbuta, Prof. Sam Agu and Mrs Nnenna Anyanwu.
