A non-governmental organisation aimed at providing a better life for young individuals, the Kingdom Heart Foundation, has provided scholarships for seven students of Otega Secondary School, Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The scholarships, according to the organisation, will cover tuition and other expenses until the end of their secondary school education, including their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and The National Examinations Council (NECO), as well as tertiary institution entrance exam also referred to as Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The support given to the students came following a debate competition among secondary schools. Also, the foundation has since its inception in 2017 been providing support, morale and value through the provision of food commodities, educational aid, and financial support to both young and old.
While announcing the offer of the scholarships to the students, the founder of Kingdom Heart Foundation, Dr Oluwadamilola Desmond-Awoyo, also presented a cheque of N100,000 to the students as part of support to aid their academic activities.
“We gave students who participated in the debate scholarships from SSS 2 till they finished secondary school. We will also pay for their WAEC, JAMB, NECO, and all necessary exams they’re going to write and see them through to the university level,” Dr Desmond-Awoyo said.
Speaking on the reason for the establishment, Dr Desmond-Awoyo explained that his zeal to cheer Nigerians up as the rationale behind the gesture, adding that when they can fulfil their purposes, it means a lot to him.
“I started this to encourage young individuals, especially teenagers, about lives, how they can be better in life and how they can fulfil purpose against all odds. Also, I got the revelations about mindset and how it can influence one’s behaviour.
“So, I took it upon myself to talk to young individuals about building a positive mindset regardless of their background, which should not have to do with putting their back on the ground. I always believe they can do more than what they can think or imagine,” he explained.
Dr Desmond-Awoyo also disclosed that several individuals including the aged have benefited from the foundation’s programmes across different parts of the countries including Kwara, Kogi, Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ondo State and many other parts.
“For the past seven years, more than 25 students, including primary schools, are currently under my scholarship. I see that as one of the ways I can help the society also. And also I look at the vulnerable people in the society and the underprivileged.
“We do not only focus on the younger ones, we also support the aged and widows with money and support their children with educational provisions,” he added.
