A private organisation, identified as Favour, Kindness and Grace Foundation, on Wednesday, commenced free medical treatment for about 50,000 indigenes in Osun West Senatorial District, saying the outreach was specifically targeted to help indigent persons, domiciled in semi-urban and rural communities.
The foundation, which partnered with Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife for the medical treatment said it was part of its commitment to give back to the society and assist poor individuals, who were unable to assess treatment in both public and private hospitals.
Speaking during a chat with journalists in Gbongan, a community in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, the coordinator of the foundation, Mr Goke Olatunji, said the screening for malaria, typhoid, prostate and eye challenges was being carried out to ascertain the actual medical needs of beneficiaries before the commencement of treatment and surgeries.
While attributing the passion of the facilitator of the free treatment to the good and healthy living of the people of his community, he explained that concerted efforts must be made by wealthy Nigerians, corporate entities to further boost Corporate Social Responsibilities (CRS) to the generality of the society.
Olatunji hinted that the foundation was working in conjunction with the Faculty of Clinical Sciences of OAUTCH, Ile-Ife to make the free medical service to the needy a huge success.
In his remark, the facilitator of the programme, Prince Dotun Babayemi who is a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State declared that the free treatment was purely humanitarian service to the people of his Senatorial District, maintaining that no political gain was expected from the gesture, which he claimed to have started about five years ago.
According to Babayemi, “there is a limit to what government can do, therefore, we need to contribute our own to the good living of our people.
We are projecting over 50,000 people in the next three months within the Osun West Senatorial District. We have an agreement with the health sciences department of OAUTCH to segregate people with serious challenge and recommend them for surgery if necessary”
He assured that he would bear the cost of treatments and surgeries, stressing that it was imperative to help the poor and the underprivileged people in Nigerian society.
