Former Minister, Shittu, backs agitation for Oshiomhole’s removal

Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu

Immediate past Minister of Communications, Honourable Adebayo Shittu has said the call for the removal of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was a welcome development.

Deputy national chairman, North Senator Lawan Shuaibu on Tuesday demanded the resignation of his boss.

Senator Shuaibu in the letter addressed to the former Edo state governor, entitled, “APC: its Fortunes VS Misfortunes: Time to Act, ” he accused the latter of running the party without recourse to other members of the party national working committee.

He equally pointed fingers of scorn at Comrade Oshiomhole over the crises and attendant litigations that trailed the conduct of the party primaries and particularly blamed the former over the recent misfortune that befell the APC in Zamfara State.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday, Honourable Shittu said all well-meaning members of the ruling party must show more than passing interest in the administration of the APC under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as he noted that the party fortunes have nosedived.

He said: “I endorse it. The truth is, with Oshiomhole, this party would go down by the time President Muhammadu Buhari finishes. Oshiomhole is full of himself and he has an ego problem and he wants to dominate every environment and democracy is not like that. I know that many of us are conscionable members of the party who think of the future of this party and the fact that this party should continue to be relevant even after

President Muhammad Buhari has left the office. We are concerned and everything that we can do to force him out, we will do it.”
In a related development, certain national officers of the APC has written to the embattled national chairman of the APC, demanding for an audience with him.

Operating under the aegis of non national working committee members, the forum in a letter signed by its chairman, Alhaji Nasiru Danu and the secretary Honourable Omolayo O. Akintola, said the meeting is “principally to address critical issues affecting our great party before such issues go out of hands which could be inimical to the general welfare of the party.”

In the letter dated 29th May, 2019, titled: “Demand for an urgent interface with NWC organ of our party-APC,” they noted that they would have called for such meeting earlier “but we considered the concluded 2019 general elections as determinant to our Party’s survival which had come and gone with successes and losses.”

The letter further read in part: “This body rose from her today‘s (29/05/2019) emergency meeting shortly after the Presidential inauguration ceremony held at the Eagle Square, Abuja and concluded the following request be made.

“We hereby request for a meeting to be fixed from your end as soon as possible in order to meet with the urgency it demands.”
Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the non-NWC members are national officers of the ruling party who are not substantive members of the national working committee. The list includes, deputy national officers and six ex-officios, picked across the six geopolitical zones.
