The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) on Thursday commences the 38th annual conference of the association in Sokoto.
Briefing newsmen at the press centre on some of the activities lined up for this year’s event, the national Ameerah of the association, Hajiya Rafiat Idowu Sanni, said the conference is to discuss a very burning issue in the life of every Muslim in particular and Nigerian at large.
She disclosed that the association, founded in October 1985, on five thematic areas to serve mouthpiece on matters that have to do with women and children.
“These are Da’wah, Education, Health, Humanitarian services and community development as well as youth and women empowerment.
“Over the 37 years of establishment, the association has been working around the thematic areas through the provision of schools in all the 700 out of 774 local government areas where FOMWAN exists including the Federal Capital Territory.
“We have six functional hospitals across the country, our orphanage in all the zones of Nigeria take care of motherless babies, orphans and other vulnerable children”
She further explained that the association has a great passion for children, “we thought it to look into the present state of the nation as regards the lifestyle of the Nigerian children and the youths.
“We shall be working on the theme, ‘Societal Reorientation: Islam as an Embodiment of Values for Growth, Development and Morality”
The association however commend the governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and his wife Hajiya Fatimah Aliyu for creating an enabling environment for the conference.
She also commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria for his scholarship assistance for the girl child to read Medicine in the Universities.
The current registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede is expected to deliver a lecture during the conference.
