As part of measures to complement the Oyo government’s ongoing efforts to address perennial flooding in the state, House of Representatives member Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide has initiated a channelization project for the Anfaani River in the Ring Road area of Ibadan.
The channelization, which spans an impressive stretch of over 1 kilometer, aims to provide a lasting solution to the flooding menace that has plagued the community for years, causing significant hardship and devastation to residents.
According to Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the National Assembly, the comprehensive channelization effort involves clearing and dredging the Anfaani River, removing obstacles and debris that have contributed to the flooding problem in the first phase of the project.

This, he said, will allow the water to flow freely, reducing the risk of overflow and subsequent flooding.
The second phase of the channelization will include the construction of a concrete canal, complete with embankments and drainage systems, to redirect the flow of the Anfaani River.
According to Mustapha, this will not only alleviate the flooding problem but also enhance the aesthetic value of the environment.
It is worth recalling that the perennial flooding has had a severe impact on the Anfaani community, often leaving residents stranded in their homes during heavy rainfall.
Hon. Olajide’s intervention, who has been at the forefront of grassroots development initiatives in his constituency, is expected to bring immense relief to the community, protecting lives and property and demonstrating a strong commitment to finding a lasting solution to the flooding issue.
