THE Federal Government has ordered the Council of Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), to fight all quacks, impostors and irregularities in the Information Technology industry in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu gave the directive on Tuesday in Abuja while inaugurating the 2019-2021 Council of Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN).
He stressed that the Federal Ministry of Education was consciousness of the need to enforce the Act that established the Council, making it mandatory for all individuals and corporate organisations that are practising Information Technology to register with CPN.
He argued that the global practice was for professionals to regulate their profession properly in order to ensure standards and best practices.

Adamu who was represented by the Minister of State, Dr Emeka Nwajiuba, said the federal government was not leaving anything to chances in its effort towards making Nigeria a giant IT compliant economy.
He said: “Therefore, all individuals and corporate organisations that are into Information Technology practice should register with computer professionals council.
“In this regard, Council has the support of the ministry and of government in its fight against quacks, impostors and all irregularities in the IT industry,” he said.
He noted that with determination, commitment and professionalism, Nigeria could attain and even surpass existing records already being established by countries around the world.
“We are all aware of what a dynamic and progressive policy in information technology has done for many countries around the world. With our determination, commitment and professionalism, we can attain and surpass their records,” he said.
He said that the task of building the country, through Information Technology, was enormous and urged the Governing Council to ensure that competent hands are put in appropriate positions to face the challenges of regulating ‘the fastest developing profession in the world.’
Speaking earlier, Professor Charles Uwadia, President and Chairman-in Council of the body pledged to ensure the IT sector is used maximally to boost the nation’s economy.
He said information technology is a tool for empowerment, is capable of eradicating poverty and contributing to the nations Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Information technology being a tool for empowerment, is capable of eradicating poverty and contributing to the nations Gross Domestic Product (GDP), especially at this period when we have started looking beyond fossil oil for the economic survival of the nation.”
