The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has flagged off its second batch of arms training for 115 personnel at the command headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, disclosed that the arms training was necessitated by the need to ensure that officers and men are well equipped and combat-ready for the onerous task ahead of them.
Command Acting Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Odumosu, while charging the officers, said, “For us in the FCT Command, we are determined to continue protecting critical infrastructure in the FCT and to flush out vandals and miscreants disturbing the peace of the seat of power.
“Your knowledge of weapons handling is very pivotal and instrumental to achieving the objectives of keeping the FCT safe, and you cannot afford to take this training with levity,” he stated.
He maintained that the Corps is poised to maintain the beautiful infrastructural aesthetics of the Federal Capital Territory by carrying out 24-hour surveillance and patrol in order to properly protect public infrastructure and sustain government efforts in providing dividends of democracy for Nigerians.
The FCT helmsman advised the trainees to take advantage of the training to achieve professional competence so that at the end of the training they will be able to contribute their quota to the growth of the Corps as much as possible.
“You must maintain a high level of discipline, and you must pay attention to every detail in the training curriculum because I am counting on you to join forces with others to contribute your quota to the fulfilment of the Corps mandate,” he advised.
The FCT Commandant advised the trainees that diligence, competence and commitment to service remain a paramount requirement to get the job done and all hands must be on deck to confront insecurity and rid the nation of vandalism and other associated crimes.
“Our overarching vision is to fulfil our mandate of making our critical infrastructure and national assets safe and secure; hence, we must train, retrain and work as a team with the capability to deliver”, Odumosu said
He used the occasion to thank FCT residents for their continuous cooperation with the Corps and equally demanded more support, especially in the area of intelligence and credible information that would assist in combating crime and criminality in the FCT.
