Professor Kamoru Usman, the provost, Federal College Education, Special, Oyo, has emerged as the new president of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria(MAN).
He was declared the new president of the association at the 57th Annual General Meeting of the association held at Bayero University Kano, recently. Professor Usman succeeded Professor Mamman Musa from Amadu Belo University Zaria, Kaduna.
Other new elected executive members of the association included: Dr Muhammad Yushau Awwal, who became the new Vice President, Alhaji Jimoh Taylor, from Lagos as the General Secretary, Dr IsahBala from Zamfara, as Assistant Secretary.
BirgittaEno Okodugha from the Edo chapter, became the treasurer of the association, Mr Omoyajowo J. Bamidele from Taraba, as the new Financial Secretary, Dr sadiqyabo from Sokoto, as Publicity Secretary and Public Relations Officer of the association. Taiwo Aliyo from Oyo, as the new Business Manager of the association.
Tribune Online learnt further that Dr M.L Kauragini from Kano assumed the position of Editor–in–Chief of the association with Dr Mrs Oshin O.O from Oyo as Deputy Editor-in-Chief). While Alhaji R. A Jimoh from Lagos and Dr Mrs Chika Ugwuanyi from Enugu, as Ex-Officio Members.
In his acceptance speech, the new president of the association, Professor Usman assured the association and all the stakeholders in the field of Mathematics in the country that his administration would promote the use of Information Computer Technology(ICT) to support the teaching and learning of Mathematics at all levels of education as he promised to organise more training and workshops for Mathematics teachers and as well to create international linkages to further expose teachers and learners of Mathematics nation-wide.
The new President, Professor Usman, was the Editor in Chief of the association in the last administration before he assumed the office of the president of the association.
He is a Professor of Mathematics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a native of Oyo town in Oyo State. He is expected to serve the association for two years.
