A family in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, has appealed to authorities concerned to look into their plight following a religious crisis that led to the death of some members of the family.
Recall that in a religious crisis that occurred in the community in March, 2016, some members of the Saliu Momoh family lost their lives after their house was set on fire during the crisis.
Speaking after an extended family meeting, spokesman for the family, Mr Otis Momoh, said violence was unleashed on the family following the conversion of some of them to Christianity.
He said, “After the death of Alhaji Saliu Momoh, who was a committed Muslim leader in Agbede, in 2001his family was persecuted by people who were enraged by the conversion of some of his family members to Christianity.
“This culminated in the burning of his house on March 2, 2016. Till today, at least three members of the family are nowhere to be found as they had to run for cover from people seeking their blood.
“This reminds one of what was done the family of Edriss Musa, that was persecuted for the same reason.”
Meanwhile, community leaders in Agbede have insisted that Muslims and Christians still leave together peacefully in Agbede.
One of the leaders, Alhaji Sule Kadiri, added that leaders in the community were putting heads together to ensure that sordid events of the past in the community not reoccur again.
