The chambers of Lateef O. Fagbemi & Co, has issued a notice to the public on behalf of the Olubodun/Osidero family of Orile Ijoku, Sabo in Sagamu, Ogun State as well as their principal members on what it termed as a contrary claim on a plot of land situate at Orile Ijoku.
The chambers in a public notice with its seal stated, “The attention of the Olubodun/Osidero Family of Orile Ijoku, Sabo, Sagamu, as well as their principal members been drawn to a letter written under the instruction of Alagura in council addressed to and circulated amongst various occupiers of the land situate at Orile ljoku, Sagamu (purportedly referred to in the said letter as Agura land) and we have their instruction to react to same by means of this public notice.
“Contrary to the claim in the letter under reference, we wish to state unequivocally that the land under reference is not in any way under the control and ownership of the Alagura or Alagura in Council as claimed by the author of the letter under reference.
“Indeed, the land since the year 1986 has been a subject of litigation between the Alagura family led by the then Oba Adeyemi Lawal and our client in Suit No. HCS/34/86 which eventually culminated into the appeal before the Supreme Court of Nigeria in SC/53/2002 Between: Momodu Olubodun Ors. v. Oba Adeyemi Lawal & Anor. By its judgment dated 13 day of June, 2008, the Supreme Court dismissed the Alagura family’s claim to title over the land in favour of our client. Therefore, by the tenor of that judgment, it is preposterous for the said Alagura family to continue laying claim to ownership over the land of which the highest court of the land had ruled that it failed to prove its title over.
“In the circumstance, we are by this notice informing all occupiers of the land not to fall for the baseless claim of the Alagura family/Alagura in Council by parting with their hard-earned money in the name of an unnecessary verification. You are warned,” the chambers stated.
Aside the land issue, the family is also kicking against the imposition of an individual as king over the people of Agura, rejecting all such people as impostors and not their family member.
