Ahead of the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state, the candidate of the Action Democratic Party(ADP) Mrs Kemi Elebutte-Halle has declared that the electorate would disappoint those banking on buying votes to win the election.
The ADP candidate who lamented the growing level and hopelessness in the society said that the people are determined to reject money from politicians on election to liberate themselves and secure their future.
Elebutte-Halle spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Friday when she was received by a mammoth crowd of supporters and admirers after returning to the state from Abuja where she went to collect her certificate of return.
According to her, she is contesting to improve the socio-economic life of the people by focusing on women and youth empowerment including ensuring maximum security for the state to witness massive development across the sectors.
She reiterated that the state had been producing male governors since 1999 with them contributing their quota, saying stakeholders and the voters should embrace a female candidate with experience and network in the interest of the state.
She said, “What I have seen today means whatever you do, you get it back. I want to say that our people have been brainwashed to believe that we have only two parties of APC and PDP, this is a lie, if this is true, we will not have about 16 political parties on the ballot for this election. ADP has come to stay and we will build on it because the people are clamouring for a woman governor, after years with a man.
“By the time I emerge as governor of Ekiti, things will begin to work for the women fold in Nigeria. Also, I will ensure peaceful co-existence among our people in the state, security, women and youth inclusion in politics will also be a priority. I have three ‘Rs’ for Ekiti. Reclaim, Rebuild and Return. There will be pure dividends of democracy for the people.
“All these vote-buying will not work come June 18 because our people are now wiser. If it is about vote-buying, you won’t see the crowd here today. We want to make a better Ekiti and whatever it takes, we will have it.”
