Eid-el-Fitr is a day of celebration and to be thankful to Almighty Allah for a successful completion of Ramadan fasting. It marks the end of one-month of abstaining from eating and drinking during the daytime, among others. Eid al-Fitr, which means “festival of the breaking of the fast” is celebrated across the world in various ways based on preference. Regardless of how you intend to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr 2024, these are the things you should do on the D’day:
1. Zakat al-Fitr (Charity)
Eid al-Fitr is a day to celebrate and also rejoice with one another but a reminder for you to give to the needy. This is highly emphasized in the Holy Quran — it is a mandatory food expected to be given before the commencement of Eid prayer. Food items that are mostly eaten by people should be prioritized. Remember to share it with love and be grateful for Allah’s kindness before and after Ramadan.
2. Eid-el-Fitr prayer
On the D’day, you’re expected to go to the Mosque or a designated praying ground to worship Allah. You can go along with praying mats, kettle, even water — it depends on your environment. Getting to this designated place on time gives you the chance to learn one or two things from the Eid sermon.
3. Wear your best dress
Most of the time Muslims buy new fabric and sew for Eid celebration. But if you’re not in this category, whatever you choose to wear on that day should be clean and the best in your wardrobe. It is a day you’re expected to be happily and graciously dressed.
4. Prepare nice meals
Eid is a day for you to prepare something nice and delicious for you and your family. Make snacks, buy or make drinks —- let the atmosphere be different from any other day. Let your loved ones know it is a special day entirely.
5. Greet your fellow Muslims
On Eid day, it’s expected of you to greet your fellow brothers and sisters in Islam with the common saying, specially for the day: “Eid Mubarak”. Smile and be happy; say nice things to your fellow Muslims.
