Ahead of Tuesday’s sitting of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over a sinister plot to disrupt the Tribunal proceedings.
Chairman of the APC in Edo State, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, specifically “urged security agencies, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Army, to be vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent a potential disruption of the Attorney General’s office by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Asue Ighodalo.”
“The disruption allegedly aims to influence the ongoing Edo State Governorship.”
Tenebe, who fingered the PDP and supporters of its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, as masterminds of the “plan to carry out this unlawful act on Tuesday,” appealed to the security agencies to be proactive in preventing this disruption.
The APC chairman emphasised that the party will not tolerate any attempt to compromise the judicial process or disrupt the peace.
The PDP and Ighodalo are currently challenging the outcome of the 21 September governorship election in Edo State, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returned the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the winner.
Tenebe urged security agencies to take the threat seriously and hold organisers of the protest accountable for the outcome of their actions.
