Edo SDG launches ‘plant, nurture, eat-girls farm’ project

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), led by Miss Sally Suleiman, weekend unveiled the Plant, Nurture, Eat–Edo Girls’ Farm Project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Miss Suleiman said that the initiative is aimed at equipping young girls with practical agricultural skills, instilling values of patience, responsibility, and self-sufficiency while contributing to food security and environmental sustainability in the state

She maintained that the project aligned with the state government’s ‘SHINE Agenda’, which according to her prioritizes agriculture as a key driver of economic transformation.

“By engaging young girls in hands-on farming, the initiative not only fosters youth empowerment but also supports critical United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5).

“The Plant, Nurture, Eat project underscores the state’s commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices while empowering the next generation of female leaders in agribusiness.

“Through this initiative, Edo State seeks to build a more food-secure future while ensuring that young girls are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the agricultural sector,” Sally Suleiman said.
