A Chief Magistrate court sitting in Lokoja has remanded two suspects, Enesi Ohinoyi, 43 and Ayuba Adeiza, 33 years for allegedly aiding, abetting and harbouring jailbreak inmates who escaped from Kabba Custodian Centre.
The suspects were said to have conspired among themselves to commit an illegal act, by screening an offender and convict, Olusegun Onimisi Otaru to escape from Kabba Custodian Centre of Nigerian Correctional Services during the last September attack.
While arraigning the suspects before the Chief Magistrate Court in Lokoja on Wednesday, the counsel to DSS, O.Y. Yahaya, urged the court through an application to remand the suspects to enable the security operatives to complete their investigation.
The Counsel explained that the application is in pursuant to sections 291 and 292 of Administration of Criminal Justice of Kogi State, urged the magistrate to remand, Enesi Ohinoyi and Ayuba Adeiza for their involvement in connection with September Attack on Kabba Custodian Centre for harbouring Olusegun Onimisi Otaru who has been convicted with a death sentence.
He stated that the operatives Department of State Security Service and other Security agents had on intelligence report arrested the two suspects, while the convict was not charged to court and has since been returned to Kabba Custodian Centre of Nigeria Correctional Services.
The convict had been tried for a culpable homicide case and was sentenced to death.
The Chief Magistrate, A. A Umar in his ruling granted the application, stated that having perused the application and the 14 paragraph affidavit, the prayers ought to be granted, consequently remanded the two suspects in Nigeria Correctional Centre for 14 days.
The Magistrate, therefore, remanded the suspects and adjourned the case till 20 October for hearing.
The DSS counsel when asked if he was satisfied with the ruling, however, declined to comment on the matter.
