The Head of the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources Management at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. T.S. Babalola, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Federal Government’s decision to establish a Pilot Soil Assessment Laboratory in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Monday, he described the initiative as a welcome and timely intervention in addressing food security.
Prof. Babalola emphasized the critical role of soil quality in determining agricultural yield and harvest outcomes.
He expressed the department’s eagerness to collaborate with the Federal Government through the new facility to tackle challenges related to soil assessment and management in Nigeria.
“For us in the Department of Soil Science at FUOYE, we warmly welcome this development, as announced by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, in a statement to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday. The establishment of this soil laboratory is a significant step toward enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in the state,” Babalola noted.
He further highlighted that the project, a collaboration between the Ekiti State Government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is the first of its kind in the South West region of Nigeria. He expressed confidence that this partnership would have a positive impact and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
