THE immediate past governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has described the dissolution of the local government chairmen in the state as constitutional rascality, saying such an illegal act cannot be condoned.
Recall that the state governor, Caleb Muftwang, recently sacked the 17 local government chairmen and councillors on the order of the state House of Assembly, while the incident that ensued over the development led to the sealing off of all the secretariats to prevent the breakdown of law and order as both the dissolved and caretakers laid claim to the seats.
The former governor, while addressing the stakeholders of his party in Jos, on Thursday, said the constitutional rascality would be corrected through legal processes embarked upon by the chairmen.
“When we see constitutional rascality, we pursue it through the rule of law to put it right. What we are seeing concerning the mandate of our local government chairmen in Plateau State, we stand by it. By the grace of God, we have democratically-elected chairmen in the state,” he said.
On the internal wrangling within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Lalong said in party politics, it is possible to have different interests, adding that party’s interests supercede those of individuals.
“In a democracy, it is possible to have different interests, but the interests of the party supercede personal interests. In Plateau State, we may not have a governor for the main time, but we have leadership, which we must subsume into,” he said.
He stated that it is an erroneous impression that APC is finished in Plateau as a result of the prevailing situation within the party, adding that APC in the state still remains a force to be reckoned with.
