Stop seeking success! It is a journey, not a destination. Looking at what you think others have achieved and beating yourself up wishing you were like them is the greatest disservice to your potential. Whenever you try to be like someone else, the best you can become is a cheap imitation of that person and a poor representation of yourself. Comparison is at the root of the Original Sin. Adam and Eve compared themselves with God, as presented from Satan’s perspective, and lost the appreciation for who they already were and what they already had. There was so much that they had access to, but they lost it all from the moment their focus shifted to the one thing forbidden to them. Once the focus is on what you lack, you will NEVER appreciate the abundance that you have. Focusing on what you lack or the abundance you think someone else has that you don’t, will only breed ingratitude and low self-esteem.
Making success a pursuit is the shortest pathway to frustration and disappointment because of the relentless pursuit of a non-existent euphoria. The theory of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, as taught in many Management classes, has put many in a perpetual grind of the desire to “make it” at all costs. Most of mankind’s daily grind is not based on a desire to become better but a desire to do more, have more and impress more people. A great percentage of man’s frustration comes from this daily grind in the desire to rise on the ladder of Maslow’s Hierarchy.
You were created a success, not for success. Success as an attainment is a reward system, not an ideal to pursue. Reversing the order will only lead to misdirected anger and deeper frustration. Whenever you put the reward before value, you will overpromise and underdeliver. Whatever you get that way, you cannot sustain.
Prosperity is not in ANY LAND. It is in people. And this is not some motivational jargon. The prosperity of Nigeria is in the people of Nigeria. No country can prosper beyond the resourcefulness of its people.
God created you with four things that you must operate with. Your success DNA comprises:
Your IDENTITY – This has little or nothing to do with what your parents named you at birth. It is not also who you have allowed others, family, friends etc., to call you or what you cooperated with circumstances to call yourself. Identity proceeds from SOURCE. From the biblical account of creation, the only creature made in God’s image is Man. He is the Source. Everything in creation was designed to take its life from its source. So, WHO ARE YOU? This is the platform from which every other thing in your life proceeds.
Your PURPOSE – Wrapped inside WHO is WHAT you were created to do, and which is why you were created and given an identity in the first place. In Eden, as soon as God spoke something into being, He spoke purpose along with it. Purpose is the essence of life. The purpose of life is a life of purpose. Your purpose is your ASSIGNMENT. It is your VALUE CODE or the value proposition that determines your contribution platform. It is what guarantees the constant flow of resources to you. It is what true success is measured by. It is the hallmark of your genius. But before it rewards you, it must HONOUR GOD and SERVE PEOPLE. Nobody who understands the interplay and activation of those two things will ever be stranded, derelict or poor. EVER!
Purpose is the significant VALUE Code that God gave you to solve a significant problem for a significant number of people in a significant way that attracts significant attention. This is what attracts significant – and sustainable – reward ANYWHERE under the sun. If you live the entitled, dependent, and consumption-driven life, you will always be a servant in ANY LAND that you ‘ja pa’ to. It’s a given!
Even in famine, kings have a reward system for significant value contribution. When Pharaoh in the Bible asked the brothers of Joseph, “What is your occupation?” he was simply asking them for the value code they were bringing to the land of Egypt that would justify their retention in the country. The significance of their value code, not their relationship to Joseph, gave them access to Goshen, the most productive portion of the nation, even in the midst of global famine at the time. Their relationship with Joseph only opened the door to access Pharaoh and some food. Connections may give you a platform. But what value code guarantees benefits for you there? The discovery, development and deployment of your VALUE CODE is what attracts HELP. YOU CANNOT HAVE A GUIDE ON A JOURNEY TO NOWHERE!
Your POWER – This speaks to the inherent capacity of your purpose. Purpose comes with empowerment. In your purpose is your anointing. It is the ability God assigns to your PURPOSE expression that enables you to do with unusual ease what others will consider unattainable. It is what puts the “super” behind your “natural”. Power simply means a dynamic ability to rearrange things and affect outcomes. Only people of value can CONSTANTLY do that. There is a power equation in anything and everything around you. It is manifested as energy. You are either a player in the game or a pawn on the board. Power is amplified by knowledge. So, refusing to develop yourself relentlessly is the easy way to cripple your own destiny and self-sabotage.
Your POTENTIAL – This speaks of everything you have capability for or what you can do but have not yet done. It is the lion in you that is yet to fully manifest as a hunter. It is the eagle that is yet to soar. Sometimes you don’t recognize it until your life becomes kinetic instead of static. Movement activates potential. Potentials only find expression in untapped possibilities that dare you to try something different, see things differently, break moulds and boxes (not bones), go where you have never been, meet new people, make new friends, and aggressively be a value contributor.
Negativity is the language of the distracted. Those who do significant things don’t have life easier or less challenging than those who do nothing. They sweat too. They have sleepless nights. They experience shortages too. They also skipped meals at some point. The difference is that they keep their eyes on the ball, making sure their discovered and embraced SUCCESS DNA comes to play every time. FOCUS and CONSISTENCY will cut through hardship like knife through butter.
You were born to fill a gap in creation, using your environment as practice ground. So, instead of blaming government, leaders, your parents, the economy, the environment and the colour of your passport for your predicament, find your own DNA and stop looking over your shoulder for an El Dorado with an elusive handout or the perfect environment that takes care of you by delivering success à la carte to your doorsteps.
Like Eldorado, success as a pursuit is an illusion. It is not called a mirage for nothing. Why can’t you find it? Because it was never lost. But you were!
