A joint operation by the Delta State Police Command and Operation Delta Sweep has left two suspected kidnappers dead following a fierce gun battle in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The operation, carried out at about 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, followed intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owa-Oyibu, who led a combined team of policemen, vigilantes and two units of Operation Delta Sweep into the Nniogbo Owa-Ekei bush.
On sighting the security operatives, the armed suspects reportedly opened fire, prompting a heavy exchange. Two of the suspects were hit and taken to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two magazines.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement, adding that a manhunt has been launched for other fleeing members of the gang.
“This breakthrough is a major boost in the fight against kidnapping in the state,” he noted.
