Delta: Armed robbers invade Nursing College hostel, steal valuables

It was a traumatic experience for students of the College of Nursing Sciences in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Thursday night as armed robbers invaded one of their hostels located outside but close to the school, carting away valuables, including at least seven mobile phones.

Tribune Online reports that the hostel has been attacked several times in the past.

The criminals, in the recent attack, stormed the hostel, which is predominantly occupied by female students, at about 8pm and held them hostage, forcing them to surrender their phones and cash.

“The men invaded us wielding their guns and threatened to shoot us. They ransacked for phones and money. Some of us were hit with guns; they even slapped us. There was confusion in the hostel, and some of us went to hide under bunks. The experience was indeed traumatic. We were afraid to sleep thereafter,” a victim narrated the ordeal.

The police were said to have arrived at the scene after the robbers had escaped and reportedly took the security man in for interrogation.

Some of the victims who were injured in the attack were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the story, adding that an investigation is in progress.
