The Elders and Leaders Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has called for the suspension of a member of the House of Representatives for advocating the endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2027 election.
In a statement issued in Asaba on Wednesday, the council described the actions of Hon Francis Waive, who represents the Udu/Ughelli Federal Constituency, as condemnable and unhealthy. The council also announced its decision to establish a committee to investigate APC members allegedly engaging in secret alliances with Governor Oborevwori.
The statement, signed by the Chairman of the council, Chief Tony Uti, a lawyer, read:
“It is unheard of that a top member of a party who enjoyed the high support of the party members to win an election to the National Assembly is calling on his party, APC, to adopt the leader of another party, PDP, as the 2027 gubernatorial candidate.
“It is condemnable, unthinkable, and unhealthy. Waive’s action is nothing but pure anti-party activity. We call on Chief Omeni Sototie, the State Party Chairman, and the entire State Executive Committee members of the party to suspend Hon Francis Waive and refer him to the disciplinary committee of the party for trial.
“We also call on Chief Festus Keyamo, Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Joel Thomas, and Senator Ned Nwoko to distance themselves from Hon Francis Waive for his anti-party activities.
“This call is necessary because if they choose otherwise, it therefore means that they are together in the pursuit of sinking the party, APC, in Delta State. Waive and the aforementioned are the major beneficiaries of the sweat of the members of the party in Delta State.
“As the former Council Chairman of Ndokwa East Council Area (1997 to 1998) under the auspices of UNCP, the Delta State Chairman of ALGON (1997 to 1998), and the Chairman of the PDP 2002 Primary Election Appeal Panel in Jigawa State, etc., I do not need to be told, as an experienced politician, that some of the top APC members from Delta State are on the payroll of the PDP-led Governor of Delta State. Waive may be the only one who has shown himself out.
“The Elders and Leaders Council has therefore decided to set up a committee to investigate those APC members who are in secret romance with Governor Sheriff. We shall publish their names and write to President Tinubu to sanction them and remove them from their appointed office if such a person is a political appointee.”
