Afraid of imminent decamping from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to an opposition party, the Kano State chapter of NNPP suspended notable party members.
This action has now brewed another crisis among the rank-and-file members of NNPP in the state.
The hammer of suspension was brought down on Senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila; Alhaji Abdullahi Sani Rogo, a member representing Rogo Federal Constituency; and Honourable Abdullahi Rurum, a member representing Rano/Kibiya; and Ali Maadakin Gini, Senator representing Dala Federal Constituency.
Making this known on Monday, while addressing the press, the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, said the action was taken to instill discipline within the party.
According to him, the four legislators, including Senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila; Alhaji Abdullahi Sani Rogo, a member representing Rogo Federal Constituency; Alhaji Abdullahi Rurum, a member representing Rano/Kibiya; and Ali Maadakin Gini, Senator representing Dala Federal Constituency, were suspended.
Dungurawa said the party expressed disappointment with the recent actions of some National Assembly members elected under the party’s platform.
According to him, despite being given complimentary tickets to the legislators during the party elections, these members have allegedly gone against the party’s wishes, beliefs, and values.
It will be recalled that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, had earlier disclosed that very soon some elected officials of the NNPP would dump the party for APC.
Dr Ganduje claimed that the NNPP is a dying political party without a good shepherd, hence the need for its members to plan to switch to the ruling party.
