A total of 56,073 students sat the stage one examination of this year’s edition of the annual Cowbellpedia Mathematics Competition nationwide.
The figure represents 34 per cent increase over the total 41,730 students who took part in the same examination last year.
Cowbellpedia mathematics competition is organised for both public and private junior and senior secondary school students across the country by Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk and other food items, on annual basis to promote the studies of mathematics.
The marketing manager of the company, Abiodun Ayodeji, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos, saying the result of the examination would be out in June with only the best 108 students (54 each for junior and senior categories) proceeding to the next stage, which is the television quiz show.

He explained that the quiz format stage would further be in preliminary, semi-final and then final round stages that would produce the winners in each category.
While emphasising that the competition had witnessed progressive increase in participation in the last four years, he maintained that the overall winners in each category would collect N2 million and enjoy an all-expense paid educational excursion abroad, while their first and second runners-up would receive N1.5 million and N1 million respectively.
Ayodeji pointed out that many stakeholders in the education sector including the Managing Partner of Edumark Consult, Mrs. Yinka Ogunde; Mr. Agboola Alphonso, an Ibadan-based education psychologist, as well as Mrs. Morenikeji Sowemimo, have at separate occasions commended the initiative.
These stakeholders and numerous others, according to him, have seen Cowbellpedia stimulating interest of students not only in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, but also in healthy competition.
