Confusion over identity of decomposed body in Makurdi

LOCALS in logo local government area of Benue State have alleged that they have found the remains of one of the four policemen declared missing after an encounter with Fulani herdsmen at Adzege community, Logo Local Government areas of Benue State two weeks ago.

The discovery has caused confusion among the local’s and police authority in the state.

While the villagers claimed that the decomposing body found was that of a policeman, the state command has stated that it was not certain whether the decomposed body was that of their man.

It would be recalled that four policemen were declared missing penultimate Saturday after an encounter with Fulani herdsmen, a day after, two of the missing policemen were said to have been rescued.

Barely a week after the incident one of the missing soldiers was found with his body mutilated while a search for the remaining one had been on.

The body was said to have decomposed beyond recognition which made it difficult to know his identity, the body was said to have been packed in a black polythene bag and conveyed in a white Hilux van to Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

But when contacted, Commissioner of Police in charge of Benue State, CP Fatai Owoseni described the alleged discovery of the policeman’s remains as mere rumour stressing that it was not yet clear if the decomposing body that was found is that of the missing policeman.

“Yes, we heard the rumour but we are not sure whether the body that found is that of the missing policeman,” Owoseni stated.
