Paramount rulers across communities in Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma federal constituency have appealed to the leadership of the House of Representatives to call the member representing them, Professor Steve Azaiki, to complete the various abandoned federal constituency projects captured in the 2020/2021 budget.
Speaking to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)’s Federal Constituency Project Tracking Committee in Bayelsa State during their visit to Epie/Atissa kingdoms, the paramount rulers expressed their displeasure at the way they are being neglected by the lawmaker representing the area at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
According to them, there was need for regular town hall meetings to enable the honorable member acquaint himself with the challenges they face and see how such challenges could be tackled.
At Onopa community, Chief Morris Tamama, paramount ruler and the community secretary, Wongs Goodhea-Alex stressed that the four-kilometre Onopa creek canalisation and 10,000-gallon motorised borehole projects captured in the 2020/2021 budget of the Federal Government are yet to be executed.
At Okutukutu community the paramount ruler, Chief Akintola Franklin and CDC chairman, Manifest Emmanuel debunked rumours of completion of federal constituency motorised borehole project in the community.
At Famgbe community, the CDC chairman, Mr. Kulukulu Velia and Jacob Ernest- Eyineni hinted the project tracking committee that the community was unaware of the ongoing 2020/2021 federal constituency land reclamation and shore protection project in Famgbe community.
Also, at Swali community, the paramount ruler, Chief Wilcox Job- Seiyefa, said that they were dissatisfied with the contractor who handled the renovation of the Community Primary School, Swali, and therefore the community could not present a letter of acknowledgment to him after completion.
The paramount ruler and DCD chairman of Obogoro community, Chief Monday Igodo and Collins Yogoi, stressed that despite the fact that the renovation of Obogoro Primary School was captured as one of the 2020/2021 federal constituency projects, the community had no primary school until the member representing Yenagoa constituency I, in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Oforgi Oboku graciously provided a modern primary school for the community.
At Akaba community, the chairman council of chiefs, Chief Nelson Ibubu, noted that the Community Primary School, Akaba should have been thoroughly renovated as captured in the 2020/2021 budget.
However, he regretted that the contractor only painted the building and installed a minor burglary proof gate.
Stakeholders of the various communities in the twin clans have called on Professor Steve Azaiki to do the needful by addressing the yearnings and aspirations of the people he swore to represent.
Meanwhile, chairman of the 2020/2021 Federal Constituency Project Tracking Committee, Mr. Charles Kuroteizi, emphasised that the committee was not set up to victimise any politician but to ensure that political office holders are held accountable to the people.
