Motorists driving to Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, and part of Borno state from Bauchi have been advised to use the Bauchi – Darazo – Dukku – Gombe Federal highway.
The development was necessitated by the cutting off of the Bauchi – Gombe federal highway at the Kalajanga bridge point following heavy rain on Saturday.
According to a Report on the failed portion of the Road within Bauchi State issued by the Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), CC PI Ikaba, the safest way, for now, is the alternative route.
He stated that “Due to heavy rainfall on Sunday morning, which started at about 0400hrs, a portion of the Bauchi – Gombe road was washed off. The road portion precisely at Kalajanga, 12km to Bara village, is impassable. The road is completely cut off.”
According to him, “As of 1000hrs today, 14th August 2023, a construction company, ENERCO, has mobilized to the site carrying out some palliative measures to rehabilitate the road.”
He also said that “the Engineer from FERMA in the person of Engr Bitrus was equally on ground at the site.ć
PI Ikaba pointed out that FRSC staff from RS 12.15 Bara led by the Unit Commander have strategically been deployed to divert traffic to the alternative routes.
“Motorists are adviced to use Bauchi -Darazo – Duku route to Gombe and Adamawa,” he added.
The Sector Commander who was at the scene to witness the extent of the damage has directed the UC Bara to as a matter of duty ensure that his personnel continued to control traffic at the scene pending return of sanity.
Recall that, While he was there, the Governor of Gombe State also visited the scene he was received by the Sector Commander and pledged that something is going to be done soon.
