A leading environmental services organisation in the country, Triple G Eco Revival Solutions has rewarded youths across South West states who created awareness on climate change and other environmental issues through artwork.
The competition tagged, ‘Triple G Eco-Art Challenge ‘ which was sponsored by LikeParadise Shoppings affords the youths between the ages of 16 and 25 years to depict the issues in the environment through their artistic skills.
The overall winner, Akinnawo Christian Oluwatosin( from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife) was awarded a brand new HP laptop and N100,000, while the first runner up, Herman Paul Ayomiposi(University of Ibadan) got N50,000 and a brand new phone and the second runner up Gambo Emmanuel Bamidele(Obafemi Awolowo University) went home with N25,000
Speaking at the award ceremony over the weekend, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Triple G Eco Revival Solutions, Oluwaseyi Ebenezer noted that the competition which was initiated in 2020 is to instil the consciousness and discipline of taking good care of the environment in the minds of youths, considering increasing environmental issues in the society.
She explained that no fewer than 100 young artists participated in the 2021 edition titled, ‘ Ecosystem Restoration’ across the South-West states including Kwara state, saying that the top three winners were awarded cash and other consolation prizes.
Ebenezer said the effect of climate change on the society in recent times in which Ekiti is not an exception prompted her desire to adopt a different and unique method to create awareness among the people hence the birth of the Eco-Art Challenge.
According to her, “We are using pictorial works to educate the people on the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment by encouraging afforestation, clearing of waterways, and the need for people to shun bush burning, building on waterways and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
“We know that pictorial things stick so much to the heart of people and it could easily send millions of messages even without inscription.”
She further said, ” This year’s artists showcased the brilliance of young Nigerians and how capable they are in expressing their ideas through Artwork. This year’s Eco-Art Challenge Award-winning ceremony will come side by side with an eco-themed Art Exhibition. The Art exhibition is a way of attracting other artists and art Savers to the Triple GEco-Art Challenge Award ceremony and also a way of raising awareness around environmental issues.
“The proceeds from the Art Exhibition will be used to start the Triple G 5,000 Tree Planting Project.”
The former provost of the defunct College of Education Ikere Ekiti Professor Mojisola Oyarekua commended the founder of Triple G for the initiative and stressed the need for every member of the society to work towards an environment free of disasters that could be occasioned by climate change.
Oyarekua noted that the recent climate change in society was the result of the damage done to the forest in the past.
Also speaking, the commissioner for Art, Culture and Tourism in Ekiti Professor Ojo Bakare, emphasised the need for all and sundry to contribute their quota to a healthy environment.
He promised the support of the Ministry of Art, Culture and Tourism in the state for the vision of the Triple G Eco revolution Solutions to combat the challenges facing the environment.
“The CEO of LikeParadise Shoppings who sponsors the competition,” Mr Ayo Apata said.
“l am a lover of art. I believe art can be used to pass a message that can help us effect a change in society. When we saw what Triple G is doing, we knew right away that we have to key into the initiative because it is a novel way of promoting environmental awareness in the country.”
