CIVIL servants in Gombe on Monday obeyed the directive of the State Government to observe a work free day in honour of its first Executive Governor, Abubakar Habu Hashidu who died last Friday in Gombe after a protracted illness at the age of 74.
The Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo had in a statement through the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Mr James Pisagih, declared Monday 30th July 2018 as a work-free day to honour the fallen hero.
According to the Statement, workers were expected to use the period to offer prayers for the repose of the deceased soul adding that work resumes on Tuesday, 31st July 2018.
It will be recalled, Late Abubakar Habu Hashidu contributed immensely during the struggle for the creation of Gombe State, having served as Executive Secretary for the Movement for the creation of the State.

When our correspondent went round MDAs, he discovered that all civil servants in the State complied with the directive as all offices visited remained closed.
One of the Civil Servants, Ibrahim Manager who works in Nafada told our correspondent that the honour was well deserved considering the contributions of the elder statesman to the State especially the peacebuilding efforts he put before, during and after his leadership in the State.
