The group warned that whoever wanted to be a stumbling block on Buhari’s anti-corruption would be crushed.
The youths who came from six geo-political zones of the country, according to the Convener, Comrade Goodluck Obi, started the protest from Unity Fountain, Maitaima, saying calling for President Buhari’s resignation was unconstitutional.
It will be recalled that a coalition of civil society groups led by Charles Oputa (Charley Boy) had since Monday commenced their protest asking the president to either resume or resign due to his ailment. Despite the brutalization by the police officers, on Tuesday, popular Nollywood actor, Jim Lyke and a co-convener of BringBackOurGirl (BBOG), Aisha Yesufu, on Wednesday, joined the protest.
The pro-Buhari came with different inscriptions which read: “If we don’t fight corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria; the system is working, no cause for alarm; Nigeria is destined for greatness, no going back; Budget padding is corruption; PMB, thank you for restoring Nigeria’s image; say no to agent of destabilization; on Buhari’s mandate we stand; send looters to jail; collectively we must kill corruption, as well as Nigerians endorse Buhari’s anti-corruption war and Buhari- our messiah”.
Speaking at the entrance of the State House, the convener of the group, Comrade Obi said nowhere in the constitution that said the president should resign because of his illness.
He stressed that their gathering was not a political jamboree as the group has always been praying for the president’s quick recovery so as to come back and continue from where he stopped.
According to him, it is not only that we are fighting corruption, we are also taking it very seriously and anybody who wants to be a stumbling block will be moved. Buhari is our messiah who has been sent to deal with monster call corruption.
“The issue of resign is unconstitutional for those who want to know because Section 145 of Nigerian Constitution supported the action of our President when he transmitted power to the Vice President and subsequently the Vice President becomes Acting President and he has since assumed the responsibilities of that office and some people are calling for the resignation of president,” he added.
