For the past three months, I have been experiencing something as if my tongue is burning although the feeling is not bad enough to prevent me from eating. I have met two other people who told me of the same experience. Kindly let me know what to do about it.

A burning or scalded sensation that most commonly affects the tongue but may also affect the lips, gums, palate, throat or whole mouth is called ‘Burning Mouth Syndrome’. The syndrome which is related to the taste and sensory system may have no cause (primary) or be due to some underlying ailments such as anxiety and stress, mouth infections, drug allergies and vitamin deficiencies (secondary). Although the syndrome usually doesn’t cause any noticeable physical changes to the tongue or mouth it is very important to see your dentist or doctor for a complete physical and laboratory investigations.
