Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has said President Muhammadu Buhari was excited about the recommendations of the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee on restructuring, pointing out that Buhari was not against the restructuring of the country as clamoured by sections of Nigerians.
el-Rufai who stated this while featuring on a Channels Television programme, said Buhari’s broadcast on January 1, 2018, was misconstrued.
Speaking further, el-Rufai ruled out propositions of a merger of states except there was a constitutional provision for such.
On the recent letter by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Buhari, el-Rufai said he was yet to read the “long” statement because he was too busy.
He allayed fears about the APC maintaining its stronghold, asserting that the party will win the 2019 presidential election as well as retain governorship position in 24 states.

“The President has been briefed about the APC committee recommendations and he is quite excited. That statement in the president’s speech on January 1st was misunderstood. He’s not against restructuring.”
“I don’t think a merger of state will happen. If people say they want something, let’s make constitutional provision for it.
“I don’t have any doubt that we are going to win the 2019 election not only at the centre, we are going to retain our 24 states.
“I have not read Obasanjo’s statement, it’s too long and I am too busy,” el-Rufai said.
