Bricklayer allegedly kills 46-year-old lover in Benin

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a bricklayer, Adebayo Kingsley, who allegedly killed his 46-year-old lover and a widow, Rosemary Ifeoma, in the Ugbor axis of Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Kingsley, who claimed to be 23 years old and a native of Ibillo in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state, was said to have killed the lover, who hailed from Orogun in Ugheli North Local Government Area of Delta State, after allegedly attacking the 13-year-old son of the deceased.

The suspect was said to have allegedly hit the mother of four with a plank. This was just as he was earlier accused of hitting the head of the 13-years-old boy with a plank too.

A resident in the area who simply gave his name as Peter said: “This woman we popularly called Mama Samuel was a widow with four children and the last one who is 13 years old stays with her.

“She was having difficulties paying her rent and then approached a woman in the area whose brother owned a storey building that has been roofed to allow her stay there pending when she can raise money to get a new accommodation. She had a lover who is a bricklayer that was coming to see her and people around here knew them.”

When confronted, the suspect confessed to the crime, denying ever hitting the deceased and her son with a plank, but admitted that he had an altercation with the lover.

“She wanted me to help her with cement but we did not agree. She said I should leave her house, I actually left but missed my way and came back to the house. However, by the time I came back, they had locked the gate, so I jumped the fence and entered their room.

“Her son threatened to stab me, went into the room and came back with a knife. I pushed him, he hit his head on the wall and collapsed,” he said.

According to him: “The woman then came and held me but in trying to push her away, she fell and hit her head on the ground and blood started coming from his head. I quickly took the boy to the room and put him on the bed and then left. I did not hit anybody with a log and I did not sleep with the woman.”

Confirming the incident, the state police command’s spokesman, Kontongs Bello, said that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.
