The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has summoned an emergency meeting over contending issues challenging the Commission’s plan to hold the presidential and nation assembly elections on Saturday.
INEC is said to be in a dillema over the widespread logistics problems being experienced by the Commission across the states.
A number of reports from the states had indicated that sensitive materials have not been supplied in many states.
The Commission, security chiefs as well as international and local observers are locked in a meeting Friday night.
Consequently, amidst widespread complaints of lack of ballot papers and result sheets in several states, INEC is expected to make an announcement anytime from now on the fate of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
There is the strong possibility that a postponement may be in the works, as INEC Chairman of Prof Yakubu is set to address the nation at the end of the stakeholders meeting.
