Borno State University has matriculated 2,674 students into various disciplines for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Speaking during the matriculation ceremony in Maiduguri on Thursday, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kyari Sandabe, warned the newly admitted students to shun drug abuse, cultism, and examination malpractice, among other vices that may lead to their dismissal.
He noted that the university has zero tolerance for poor moral character, and any students found guilty of social vices would be dealt with accordingly.
According to him, 6,528 students from across the nation applied, and the total number of admitted students stands at 2,674, with 2,287 through the UTME and 387 through the DE processes.
“Out of these, 121 students are in the Faculty of Agriculture, 1043 in the Faculty of Science, 751 in the Faculty of Arts and Education, and 759 in the Faculty of Management Sciences. There has been a progressive increase in our admissions over the three-year period.”
“The University is making efforts to provide a good learning environment. Lots of advocacy visits have yielded positive results. TETFund has been actively supporting the University with many projects every year since its inception.
NEDC is building the Faculty of Engineering complex, NNPC is providing accommodation for one of our centres, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has installed streetlights, NITDA and the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, after providing a building for ICT, are now installing broadband internet facilities that can cover the entire university. Students are now being accommodated on campus, and free student buses are provided to shuttle students to and from the University.”
“The Management of the University is pleased to inform you that the results of the last accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC were 100% successful, with 28 programs receiving full accreditation and two receiving interim accreditation.”
“The University is committed to using this feat to continue maintaining the standard and quality of its programs. It has also obtained a letter of approval from the NUC for the establishment of the Centre for Kanur Ajami and Qur’anic Studies. In conjunction with the Technical/Professionals authorized by the NUC, the University has revised the University Academic Briefs, thereby fast-tracking the commencement of academic programs in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Medical and Health Sciences by the next academic session.”
“The University, in the days to come, will produce strategic and coordinated plans to participate in community and societal developments using proactive approaches.”
“On behalf of the council, senate, management, staff, and students, I would like to thank and show our appreciation to the Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Professor (Engr.) Babagana Umara Zullum mi FNSE CON CON Niger, whose commitment to the ideals and objectives of the University is exalted. Appreciation also goes to the Ministries of Higher Education and Finance for their untiring support. Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, Staff on Sabbatical and Visiting, and all support staff are appreciated.”
“Importantly, all praise to our Creator Allah, the Exalted, who made it possible for us to endure running the affairs of this University and witness this matriculation ceremony.”
“In conclusion, let me end with the Quranic question, ‘Are those who have knowledge equal to those who do not have knowledge?’ and the saying of the noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that ‘there is no one who goes out of his house to seek knowledge, but the angels lower their wings in approval of his action’.”
