Bomu/Bonny Road: Rivers APC chieftain commends FG

MR George Tolofari, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, has commended the Federal Government for its plan to start work on the Bomu/Bonny road in the state.

Tolofari told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Friday that the planned commencement of work on the road was a welcome development.

He said that the road was very crucial to the development of Bonny Kingdom and would ease the challenges associated with water transportation.

“It’s a welcome development for me and I’m sure it is the same for every well-meaning sons, daughters and of course, even visitors and residents in the Island.

“It will curb drastically the menace of boat mishaps, criminality and sea piracy along our route and open-up more economic activities,” he said.

Tolofari, who is the leader of APC in Bonny Local Government Area, urged the federal government and National Assembly not to relent in their efforts to see that the project was realised.

“This project has been in the pipeline for many years, so; I pray that the necessary organs of government will not relent in their efforts to ensure this road to come to fruition,” he added.

The APC chieftain, who is also the immediate past Commissioner for Transport in Rivers, called on the communities affected to jealously guard the project when work commences.

Mr Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, disclosed in Port Harcourt on Thursday that the federal government was ready to release its counterpart funding for work to commence on the road.
