
FACTIONAL leader of the Boko Haram insurgents, Mamman Nur has been brutally wounded in the ongoing onslaught by troops of the Nigerian Army against the Boko Haram.
Military spokesman for Operation Lafia dole, Col Onyema Nwachukwu told newsmen in Maiduguri that it has also been established that many of his foot soldiers have equally been distabiized or killed from their location in the bush by the advancing troops.
Nwachukwu said in a statement that the “ongoing artillery and aerial bombardments of Boko Haram enclaves in the Lake Chad region by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole has continued to yield positive results within the last few days.
” Currently an evaluation report of the ongoing operation indicates that a major factional leader of the terrorists group, Mamman Nur has been fatally injured in the bombardment as he and his sub commanders fled from the onslaught.
“Several of his foot soldiers have also been killed by troops, while many of the insurgents who escaped are now surrendering to the Republic of Niger Defence Forces, following the Amnesty granted the insurgents by the Government of Niger Republic.”
Meanwhile Borno State Government, again on the strong advice of the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, have announced the extension of the rescheduled curfew time for another week.
The curfew announced this week for 8:00 pm to 6:00 am every day from Tuesday was to have ended today but will last for another week to enable tie some loose ends in the on going onslaught till Friday 12th January, 2018.
According to government spokesman Dr Mohammed Bulama is to give the Armed Forces sufficient time to complete the on-going special operation launched against Boko Haram terrorists which, we have been assured, has recorded resounding successes.
“Government once again deeply regrets the understandably difficult situation this development will inevitably create as well as the great inconvenience the general public will suffer, but rest assured that this decision was taken to safeguard our collective security and well-being.
“Government therefore urges all indigenes and residents of Borno State to see this temporary measure as part of the necessary sacrifice we all have to make in the interest of peace, stability, development and progress of not only our dear State, but Nigeria as a whole. The understanding, support and cooperation of the general public is highly solicited in the observance of this curfew timing, please.” Bulama said in a statement issued this evening.
