Mr Clement Odeh, the Executive Secretary of the board, told newsmen in Lafia on Saturday that hate speeches must be shunned as the 2019 general election is fast approaching.
He commended the Arewa Youths coalition for suspending the Oct 1 quit notice given to Igbos to leave the North, describing the withdrawal of the quit notice as a good omen for the country.
“The suspension of Oct 1 quit notice to Igbos to leave the North is a good omen for all Nigerians. It is not only good for the Igbos but for the entire Nigerians because peace is priceless and non-negotiable.
“We must avoid hate speeches and other negative tendencies for the peace and unity of our country so as not to create confusion, crisis and division in the country.
“We can only achieve permanent peace if we see ourselves as brothers and sisters as well as have respect for each other.
“And also to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the development of the country.
“Politicians and Nigerians must know that power is given by God to whomsoever he desires. Hence the need for Nigerians to eschew acts inimical to peace, progress and development,” he said.
Odeh urged Nigerians to always stand for the truth no matter the circumstances they found themselves in order to make Nigeria great.
“The country can only be great if all Nigerians do the right thing at the right time,” said the scribe.
He called for support to all those in leadership positions to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
He also urged Nigerians to pray for the peace and unity of the nation as well as leaders at all levels, adding that no nation will achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of anarchy.
He said that the board would continue to sensitise the people of the state and Nigerians on the need to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religion and political affiliation.
