The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has appealed to electricity consumers in Delta state for cooperation as it is expected to roll  out 200,000  meters  under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme in the state .

Flagging off the scheme  at an interactive with newsmen in Asaba , Executive Director, Commercial of the company Mr Abu Ejoor  disclosed that the roll out  of the meters  which is expected to be for two years  with a monthly cumulative average of 10,000 units, would commence from  Asaba the state capital  to other locations in the local government areas.

According to him,  between 2018 and now  BEDC has connected 112 communities  without supply in its coverage areas in four states  to the national grid with 55 of them located  in Delta state.

The director  said  in  installing the meters, four would be hung on an electricity pole  as a way of checking  theft, and forstal tempering with the facilities while costumers can  recharge their meters with ease.

While explaining that  MAP scheme would assist in reducing customers’ complaints on metering, and estimated billing which accounted for 60% of complaints, Mr Ejoor warned electricity users not to succumb to fraudsters as only identified staff would carry out the metering exercise.

“We advised customers not to give cash to either MAP or BEDC staff and should pay only into accounts designated by the MAP”

He stated that  the state gets 37% of the total allocation from the national grid explaining that only one and three phases meters costing N36,991 and N67,862 respectively would be installed

Some of the achievements of the company, Mr Ejoor said,  include construction of commercial feeders in Asaba, Warri, Udu, Ogwashi Uku, Agbor, from six hours to average  of 22 hours to commercial customers in the environs; completion of injection substations across the state and restoration of power supply to many communities including Ibusa, Isele Uku, Illah among others.
