The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led faction has disclosed that it has screened a total of 47 aspirants for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The disclosure was made by the State Chairman of the faction, Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga, during a press conference held at the party’s secretariat along Yandoka Road in Bauchi.
According to Burga, the aspirants screened include three for the Senate, 12 for the House of Representatives, 31 for the State House of Assembly, and one governorship aspirant.

He maintained that the faction under his leadership remains the authentic structure of the PDP in Bauchi State, warning that aspirants who obtained nomination forms from any other faction had wasted their money.
He said such aspirants would not be recognised by the party.
“Very soon, we will conduct the party primaries where our candidates will emerge and effectively participate in the 2027 general elections in the state,” Burga stated.
The PDP chairman argued that the internal issues at the national level would not significantly affect states and zones where congresses were properly conducted and supervised by relevant authorities.
“Yes, the Ibadan National Convention was nullified while the Supreme Court upheld the suspension of some former national leaders of the party, but we are the main leaders of the PDP,” he said.
Burga further insisted that there was no faction within the PDP, claiming that those being referred to as members of another faction had already been suspended from the party.
“As far as we are concerned, there is no faction in the PDP. Those you are referring to are no longer members of the PDP as they have been suspended and the Supreme Court has confirmed it,” he declared.
The PDP chairman also criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of working against the interests of the party.
“Nyesom Wike is the leader of those people, but his son and associates are contesting in the APC. He is struggling to have an APC man as the next governor of Rivers State. You can now understand that there is a problem somewhere,” he alleged.
Burga expressed confidence that the PDP remains the strongest opposition party in Nigeria and would reclaim power at the national level in the 2027 elections.
According to him, all activities being carried out by the faction are in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026 as amended, and the constitution of the PDP.
He also commended the Federal High Court over its ruling affirming that former President Goodluck Jonathan has the constitutional right to contest future presidential elections in the country.
Burga assured party supporters that the PDP was fully prepared for future elections and remained a formidable political force with structures across the country.
