Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the provision of Hadaya (sacrificial rams) for 1,725 indigent pilgrims from Borno State currently participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.
The gesture is aimed at assisting the affected pilgrims to fulfil one of the key rites of Hajj in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
The Hadaya, which involves the ritual slaughter of rams or other approved livestock, is obligatory for pilgrims performing Hajj al-Tamattu or Hajj al-Qiran, the most common categories of Hajj undertaken by non-resident pilgrims.
A statement issued by officials of the Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board said the animals would be slaughtered during the days of Tashreeq, from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, in line with Shariah guidelines.
The statement noted that the governor had consistently sustained the intervention over the years to ensure that indigent pilgrims from the state were not denied the opportunity to complete their religious obligations.
“In addition to the Hadaya, Governor Zulum also provided free Ihram garments for male pilgrims and khimars for female pilgrims to ease their spiritual exercise,” the statement said.

It added that the governor also paid hotel differentials to secure more conducive accommodation for members of the Borno contingent in Makkah.
The statement further quoted the governor as urging the pilgrims to intensify prayers for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Governor Zulum called on the pilgrims to use the sacred period of Hajj to pray for enduring peace, unity and development in Borno and the country at large,” the statement added.
