Bauchi only female governorship candidate steps down for gov Abubakar

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, the only female governorship candidate in Bauchi State under the platform of the Advanced Congress of Democracy (ACD) Hajiya Baheejah Mahmud has jettisoned her ambition and expressed support for the incumbent Governor Mohammed Abubakar of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
While addressing newsmen in her house on Thursday,  the governorship candidate explained that the decision to step down for Mohammed Abubakar was in consideration of his administration’s laudable achievements and the need for the state’s citizens to give him another chance to take the state to the promised land.
She said that among her 31 other contenders, only Mohammed  Abubakar has so far expressed willingness to carry women and youth along in his government hence her decision to discard her aspiration in order to support him.
Baheejah Mahmoud who asked all her supporters to vote for the APC governorship candidate, however, said her party’s state assembly candidates would participate in the election.
She concluded that:  “I joined the governorship race in order to empower women and youth so that they would not only be self-reliant but also contribute their quota to the development of the society. But after wide consultation, I decided to withdraw from the race to support Governor M. A Abubakar”.
