Bauchi NUJ dissociates self from Illegitimate awards, warns public

The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has dissociated itself from what it described as “illegitimate awards and honours” currently being given out by some individuals in the state.

The council noted with concern how certain persons are attempting to organize award ceremonies through dubious means. It emphasized that the NUJ has no affiliation with the presentation of such awards to unsuspecting members of the public and organizations by some newspapers.

In a statement signed and issued by the Secretary, Isah Garba Gadau, the NUJ stated, “We therefore urge those who have received such awards to note that they were neither recognized nor approved by the NUJ.”

“We advise the public to be cautious of such unauthorized events and to verify the authenticity of any awards or recognitions with the State Council of the NUJ before accepting or publicizing them,” he added.

Gadau further stated that the Bauchi State Council of the NUJ has already informed security agencies to assist in identifying and prosecuting those organizing such illegal awards.
