Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources has banned all traditional rulers in the state from issuing consent letters to any prospective mining investors in their various domains across the state.
The State Commissioner of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Maiwada Bello, stated this in a press release signed on his behalf by the information officer of the Ministry, Sale Umar, made available to journalists over the weekend.
He stated in the release that “henceforth, it is illegal for individuals, groups, or traditional heads to issue consent letters to any mining investor without obtaining clearance from the Ministry of Natural Resources.”
The Commissioner further stated that the decision was to address the effects of environmental degradation associated with mining activities coupled with security challenges across the state.
The letter further contained that the state government, through the Ministry, will continue to formulate policies that will provide an enabling environment for the mining sector to strive in the state, thereby enhancing investors’ confidence in the solid mineral sector.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Natural Resources is conducting a sensitization workshop for critical stakeholders in the Mining sector
The Commissioner of the Ministry, Muhammad Maiwada Bello, disclosed this in his office over the weekend, saying that following the ban on the issuance of consent letters to prospective investors before obtaining clearance from the Ministry, it is necessary to enlighten the general public on the policies and programmes of the present administration in order to ensure strict compliance.
Muhammad Bello further stated that the Ministry would bring all its stakeholders in mining to the gathering with a view to educating them on the series of advantages of the new policy, calling on the critical stakeholders in mining for their total support to enable the state government to implement its policies successfully.
