Backstabbing, envy, killing our industry, Iyabo Ojo laments

Popular actress, who is famous in the Yoruba-speaking movies, Iyabo Ojo has said the industry has refused to grow because its practitioners have failed to purge themselves of hate, envy and backstabbing.

The mother of two, who is also an entrepreneur, spared no words on how most of her colleague in the movie industry failed to show genuine support and love to one another, adding that many people are only friends when it suits them.

Ojo did not absolve the menfolk of the rot, as she described the development as shameful, one which she said was capable of destroying the industry if not nipped in the bud.

Ojo shared her thoughts on her Instagram handle, on Thursday, just as she cautioned those who follow them on social media platforms not to be fooled by what they see.

According to her, she started having problems with certain people when she refused to let them into her business.

“When you refuse to let them into your business, you become a rival and threat to them. They would turn around to rewrite your scripts and when they are done destroying you, they will move to another next gullible victim,” she said.

She maintained that some of her colleagues were in the habit of deceiving the unsuspecting members of the public, especially their fans in order to score cheap popularity, adding that “we never truly support our own. We are just friends when it suits and we are very perfect at deceiving our fans. That’s why we are actors.”

She added that actors and actresses are usually embroiled in competition that no one truly understands. She asked why it was difficult for her colleagues to understand that people are unique in different ways.

With 20 years in the industry, Ojo, who is also a movie producer said the game was not for learners. “Trust me when I say the game is not for a learner. You have to be rooted. It’s unexplainable. Don’t be fooled, our industry is a make-believe world,” she said.

It has always been said that movie practitioners are often at each other’s throat. They engaged in unhealthy rivalry that has seen them break into different camps.

R gathered that each camp has its own people and once an actress or a group of people don’t align, they don’t get called up for jobs. In fact, a popular actress, who did not want her name mentioned, said she was sidelined for six years because she failed to break into one of the groups headed by another popular actress.
