Please allow me to air my view on the ongoing Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2017 UTME registration exercise.
If care is not taken, many of the prospective students will miss the examination scheduled for this month as a result of the long distance of the centre where they are expected to write the examination.
For example, during the registration of my ward at the CBT centre, Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, most of the candidates were allocated 11 centres outside Ibadan, outside Oyo State and to as far as Akungba-Akoko in Ondo State, a journey of about 350 kilometres to Ibadan.
Aside the additional financial burden the parents will incur, there is the risk to life of the candidates and their guardians if they choose to accompany them to the venue of the examination.
JAMB should consider the students’ residence before allocating examination centres to them.
