ATBU alerts public over fake social media accounts of VC Kunya

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has alerted the public to be aware of fraudsters using social media to defraud individuals.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, the ATBU management described the situation as “Fake Social Media Accounts.”

According to Zailani Bappa, Director of the Directorate, “The attention of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, was brought to a fake Facebook account opened in his name by a good Samaritan, obviously with the intent to scam innocent people.”

He further stated, “A screenshot of a transaction with the good Samaritan revealed a direct attempt to deceive the individual into surrendering a significant amount of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.”

“In light of this, it has become necessary to alert the general public, especially our stakeholders, that the Acting Vice-Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction with anyone on social media, nor demand any financial favors for any purpose whatsoever,” Zailani Bappa added.

He emphasized, “In fact, the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a Facebook account and has not authorized anyone to manage any social media account on his behalf.”
