No fewer than 50 participants drawn from Ogun West senatorial district took part in the training and capacity building for youth development in Agriculture on agro-based value chain businesses held recently in Abeokuta, Otta, Ogun State.
It was organised by the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in collaboration with Peak Shammah Ltd.
The week-long programme sponsored by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is aimed at empowering the youth in various agricultural value chain businesses to include but not limited to crop production, poultry and empowerment.
Executive Director, ARMTI, Dr Olufemi Oladunni, stated that the programme was designed to empower youths in business development, to enhance participants’ competence in agricultural productivities.

He affirmed the training had the capability to impact useful knowledge and encouraged agricultural investment to boost the nation’s economy, as he expressed optimism that the participants would benefit a lot from the knowledge of the facilitators of the programme.
Managing Director of Peak Shammah Ltd, Mrs Fadare Oluwaseye, said that the programme was borne out of dire need of the government’s desire to equip youths of Ogun West senatorial district with relevant skills in agro-based value chain and business development, which was needed to drive and transform agriculture to an attainable level of excellence and sustainability in Nigeria.
Participants were put through courses which included market analysis and linkages in agricultural value chain; formation and management of cooperative society; business development and management; operation and maintenance of grain threshing and milling machine; as well as agricultural land development for improved livelihood.
